Human rights
Since the signing of the 1948 Universal Declaration on Human Rights, nations and peoples of the world have built substantial agreement albeit non-consensual to some of the governments; that civil and political rights as well social, economic and cultural rights are universal and indivisible. In its work, IHES explores the philosophy of the Universality and Indivisibility of Human Rights in the framework of sustainable development. IHES argues that in whatever context, nation states and peoples of the world need to observe and adopt a human Rights based approaches to development if such development is to be sustainable and people centred. IHES recognizes the fact that over time, nation states have developed, signed and or acceded to treaties, statutes, conventions, protocols and other instruments at international, regional and bilateral levels that legally bind them to promote, respect and observe human rights. IHES works with national, regional and international Human Rights Institutions to ensure that the undertakings as well as obligations under these instruments are implemented. We work with civil society organizations as well as other stakeholders to ensure the promotion; respect as well as continued advocacy for the observance of human rights as well as the human rights based approach to development. We dedicate time, skills and resources to ensure the building of capacity for state actors, civil society as well as individuals involved in Human Rights work at all levels. We endeavor to undertake and conduct independent studies that address human rights challenges in different contexts and do our best disseminate such information in the best way understandable by our target groups and stakeholders. We support states and organisations to review, formulate and implement policies and legislation in the area of human rights as well as supporting public officers to regularly and properly file treaty reports as well as comply with other related obligations. We develop and deliver courses for both state and non-state actors in the area of human rights; while developing tools and imparting skills that guarantee proper delivery of services in each context of the trainees’ engagement. We endeavor all the time to ensure that our work is based on agreed commitments by states while ensuring the rights of the individuals to advocate for the observance, protection and enforcement of human rights.
